It’s simple - Kansas students can’t learn when they’re hungry

1 in 5 Kansas Children don’t know where their next meal will come from.

A full stomach equals a full mind. Providing school meals is one of the most important tools in the fight against childhood hunger and it’s time for Kansas to join fifteen other states in the fight against childhood hunger by eliminating reduced-price copay for kids and offering universal school meals to all Kansas students.

So Kansas students have the basic tools they need to thrive.

Meals in Action

Expanding access to free and reduced school meals for Kansas students can help:

Boost Student Success

Hunger is a barrier to learning. Students with empty stomachs are proven to have lower test scores, an increase in behavioral issues and less attendance across the board. School meals are essential for success in and out of the classroom - Kansas kids deserve the chance to learn and grow without hunger holding them back!

Lay the Foundation for a Stronger Kansas

Eliminating the reduced-price copay for Kansas K-12 students is a long-term investment in their well-being and development. By investing in Kansas children today, a strong foundation is being built for a stronger, more prosperous Kansas tomorrow.

Support Hardworking Kansas Families

One-third of the regular income for low-income families is spent on food. Removing the reduced-price meal copay will ease financial strain and provide much-needed relief for hardworking Kansas families by saving them up to $1,000 per year, per child.

Offering universal school meals is best the way to get all Kansas kids the nutrition they need. Some Kansas schools are already focused on feeding more kids through the US Dept. of Agriculture's Community Eligibility Program.
